Fred Astaire Dance Studios offer new students an Introductory package that consists of 2 private lessons and 1 group lesson at a great discount. Private lessons can be scheduled from 1:00 PM – 10:00 PM Monday through Friday or by special appointment on weekends.
After the introduction you would get started at the beginner’s level. The cost varies depending on how many dances you’d want to learn, which determines how many lessons you would need.
We don’t have pre-set packages–we design each student’s program individually based on their interests and goals. We teach on a three way system of private, group and practice lessons, each of which develops different dance skills to help students feel confident as quickly as possible.
Lessons are purchased in units–each unit includes a private, a group and a practice lesson. Your dancing future is just a phone call away.
Call the studio to schedule an appointment for your first lesson and we’ll take it from there!
No. We teach both singles and couples here at Fred Astaire Dance Studio. If you come in as a single student, your instructor will be your partner for your private lessons, and our group and practice lessons will provide plenty of opportunity to meet other students with the same interests and goals.
Private lessons are 40 minutes long and consist of one student or a couple working with one instructor.
Most students try to come in a couple of times a week for private lessons. — The less time between lessons means the less you will forget, the less you will need to review and the more quickly you will learn and reach a confident level in your dancing.
Private lessons are the easiest way to learn to dance since they are scheduled by appointment when it’s convenient, you can focus on your areas of interest and move at your pace. It is most effective to use private lessons in conjunction with group and practice lessons to fine tune material introduced in a group setting.
Private lessons are by appointment only and may be scheduled from 1:00 PM – 10:00 PM Monday through Friday. Although we don’t have regular studio hours on weekends, some teachers schedule lessons on Saturday as well.
A group lesson is also 40 minutes long and consists of several students learning from one instructor. Most students try to get to a couple of group classes each week, usually scheduling a private lesson before or after.
Students work on the mechanics of dancing like musical timing, footwork, arm position and general technique. We show all your body parts how to work together to create the characteristic style of each dance so they look and feel like they should on the dance floor.
Group classes are scheduled almost every night of the week and cover a wide variety of dances and techniques providing all levels of students with the opportunity to participate. Check your studio calendar for this month’s schedule.
Our weekly practice lessons prepare you for dancing socially and allow you to apply material learned in your private and group lessons without the pressure of the public eye upon you. Students attend to have fun, learn and dance and they often schedule a private or group lesson the same evening they come to the practice lesson.
The practice lessons are beneficial for students of all levels but are geared for beginners, in that we announce with each song what type of dance it is and the teachers are available to answer questions and help refresh your memory!
At our practice lessons we recreate a social setting and students have the opportunity to dance with and meet other students, as well as with the instructors. Check your studio calendar for this month’s schedule.
We host a Share the Experience guest party each week. Similar to an open house, a Share the Experience party gives students the chance to introduce their friends and family to the world of dancing while earning FREE bonus lesson for themselves!
We explain the background and style of several common, popular social dances, describe the different levels dancing is divided into, and have floor shows demonstrating the various levels of dance we teach that are performed by both students and staff.
There is no cost to you but reservations are preferred for the Share the Experience party, so call ahead to let us know that you and your friends plan to attend. The highest compliment you can pay your teacher is to bring your friends to the studio!
We teach all forms of partnership dance: ballroom, country, swing and latin. Our goal is to prepare you to dance with confidence in any social situation. Our American style curriculum includes 13 dances that will allow you to dance anywhere, with anyone, on any occasion!
The most common social dances are Fox Trot, Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Cha-Cha, Salsa/Mambo and Eastern Swing (which includes lindy, lindy-hop, jitterbug, shag, etc.), with Samba, Merengue, Cumbia, Bachata, West Coast Swing, Country Two-Step and Three-Step, Bolero, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep, Argentine Tango and Paso-Doble available by request.
No! Our Conceptual Method of Teaching and Three Way System of instruction make it easy to learn dance. Of course it will take time to learn the various dances and a repertoire of steps in each but it’s a fun and easy process! Like any activity that develops physical coordination, a couple of lessons won’t do the job but a steady approach with periodic practice will produce visible results in a short period.
All of the dances at Fred Astaire Dance Studios are interrelated, it is just as easy to learn 3-4 dances as it is to learn 1-2. In most dance situations, you will need to know a variety of steps in a multitude of dances.
Fred Astaire Dance Studios teaches a style of dance that is used in any social situation. Although many students initially come to learn for a special occasion, for example, a wedding, cruise, bar mitzvah, Doctor’s ball, etc., they find many other times for dance in their personal lives.
We also provide practice parties for your convenience. Our facility is a smoke-free environment for your dancing pleasures. So, take your “first step” by setting up an appointment for your 1st dance lesson.
Wear something comfortable that won’t inhibit movement. Of course, comfortable shoes are recommended! We suggest a pair of leather-soled shoes for gentlemen and a hard-soled dress shoe with a back for the ladies.
Tennis shoes or anything made for traction tend to stick to the floor and make movements like turns more difficult. To help keep our hardwood dance floor dry, grit-free and generally in good condition, we ask you to bring the shoes with you that you intend to wear for your lesson and change once you get to the studio.
Like any other physical activity, ballroom dancing has specially designed shoes for both men and women that make it safer and easier to dance because they are specially designed for the unique demands dancing puts on your feet.
We offer a line of top quality dance shoes and our staff are well-versed in how to fit you properly. Treat your dance shoes with respect–don’t wear them as street shoes. Always bring them with you in a bag or box to the studio, brush the suede soles with each wearing and try to never get the soles wet.
If you take good care of your dance shoes they will last quite a long time.
Yes, we do. They make a great gift for the holiday season, for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries or any time.
Some of our wedding couples who already own most of the “stuff” they need have included us in their registry so after the wedding they can continue to enjoy quality time set aside just to focus on each other, learning and growing together. What a great gift to give a newly married couple–a way to keep the spark of romance alive in a lifelong relationship!
Gift certificates for the Introductory Special are most popular for new students but can be purchased in any amount and given to our current students to put toward lessons, dance shoes, miscellaneous activities, etc. Just ask any one of us for details
